The 2024–2025 season has been another outstanding year for netball at Wallace High School. Under the leadership of former pupil and 2024’s School Netball Coach of the Year, Wallace alumna, Dawn Baxter, our teams have competed in numerous competitions and finals with remarkable success. From newcomers in Year 8 to seasoned Senior players, the Wallace netball squads have once again proven their commitment, resilience, and talent on court.

In 2024, our Senior A team were runners-up in the Northern Ireland Final. This year, they returned with one clear goal: to bring the Schools’ Cup trophy home to Clonvein Park. After a commanding semi-final victory over a strong Our Lady St Patrick’s Knock team (37–20), they progressed to face the formidable Dominican College in the final. The game was a thrilling encounter, with momentum shifting throughout. Going into the last quarter, Wallace had to dig deep and hold their nerve. In a dramatic finish, the girls secured a stunning 31–30 victory. It was a classic final and a superb display of resilience and composure under pressure.

Inter A, B and C Teams
The Inter A team, a youthful side with only one Year 12 player and the rest in Year 11, impressed all season. They battled their way to the semi-finals of the NI Schools’ Cup, narrowly losing to Our Lady’s, Newry, in a physical and hard-fought match. This talented squad has gained invaluable experience and will return stronger next year.

Our Inter B team also showed excellent development and determination. They reached the quarter-finals of the Shield, only just losing out to Hunter House A (16–19) in a competitive game.
At the time of writing, our Inter C team remains unbeaten in the Lisburn League. Their strong teamwork and fighting spirit have been evident throughout the season. We look forward to seeing how they finish their campaign!
Junior A and B Teams
Huge congratulations to our Junior A team, who were crowned NI Junior League Champions after remaining unbeaten in a tough finals blitz against Banbridge, Aquinas, and Ballymena Academy. The squad also reached the final of the NI Plate, where they faced Our Lady’s, Newry. Despite a brave effort, they were defeated 15–28, but their journey through the tournament is a testament to their dedication and talent.

Our Junior B team had an impressive season too. Despite an early one-goal defeat to Strathearn, placing them in the second tier of the league, they bounced back strongly. They were undefeated in matches against Sperrin, Ulidia, Grosvenor, and Down High, eventually winning the NI League title after a tense 12–11 final victory over Down High. The team also progressed to the semi-final of the NI Schools’ Bowl, where they narrowly lost to Assumption A’s (12–14) in a thrilling and closely contested match.

Minor A and B Teams
The Minor A team reached the semi-finals of the NI Schools’ Cup, losing to eventual champions St Ronan’s. Their run to the final four is a fantastic achievement, and they should be very proud.

Our Minor B squad enjoyed a fantastic league and cup campaign. In the league, they were undefeated in the first round, beating Banbridge, Lurgan Junior High, and Friends’ School. This success placed them in the top section of the competition, where they faced tough opposition including Aquinas B, OLSPK B, St Mark’s Warrenpoint, Grosvenor, and St Dominic’s B. After a narrow loss to St Dominic’s B, they finished as NI League runners-up—a fantastic result! On top of their league success, they were also crowned the NI Schools’ Bowl Champions 2025. Well done!
Good luck to our Minor Lisburn League Team as they continue their season. They have so far won three out of three fixtures!
Year 8
On Thursday 6th February, our Year 8 netballers took part in their first ever tournament. Facing Friends’, Laurelhill, Fort Hill, Lisnagarvey, Lagan College, St Colman’s, and Hunter House, the girls were undefeated throughout. Their energy, teamwork, and potential were clear for all to see—an exciting start to their netball journey and another trophy for the Wallace cabinet!

Coaches Reflections- Dawn Baxter
“The 2024–2025 season has been nothing short of inspirational. Every squad, from our Year 8s to our Senior A team, has demonstrated incredible determination, teamwork and spirit. Watching these players grow, both on and off the court, has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my coaching career.
I’m especially proud of our Senior A team for claiming the NI Schools’ Cup — what a thrilling final! But beyond the silverware, it’s the commitment at training, the encouragement of peers, and the joy in celebrating each other’s successes that make Wallace netball so special.
I have built the most amazing relationship with these girls and can honestly class them — and treat them — as my own. This takes respect from both sides: respect from the girls towards me, but also well-earned respect given to them when due.
Each team has faced challenges this season, and each has risen to meet them with resilience and grace. To all our players: thank you for your passion, effort and belief. You’ve done your school proud, and I am very proud of you all. I can’t wait to see what next season brings.”
