A group of 30 enthusiastic and talented Wallace High School pupils embarked on an exciting hockey tour to Scotland from 17th to 19th March. Comprising players from the U14A and U14B teams, the trip was the perfect combination of competitive sport, team building, and memorable experiences both on and off the pitch.

The adventure began with an early morning departure as the girls made their way to the boat for the crossing to Cairnryan. Spirits were high as the teams travelled together, setting the tone for a weekend full of camaraderie, determination, and fun.

The hockey fixtures formed the heart of the tour, and the girls were thrilled to face off against strong Scottish opposition. The first matches took place at the prestigious Glasgow High School, where both Wallace teams put in excellent performances.

The following day brought more hockey action, this time at the stunning grounds of Dollar Academy. In each fixture, the girls displayed impressive skill, teamwork, and resilience, ultimately emerging victorious in all of their matches. The tour concluded with a high-energy training session on the final morning, allowing the players to reflect on their matches, fine-tune their techniques, and end the trip on a high.

Coaches Comments
Miss Montgomery, who organised and led the tour, praised the pupils’ efforts and team spirit throughout the journey:
“This tour was a fantastic opportunity for our U14A and B squads to develop their skills and strengthen their bonds as teammates. From the moment we set off, the enthusiasm and positivity from the girls was remarkable. On the pitch, they showed a real hunger to play well and improve with each match, and I couldn’t be prouder of their performances—winning all our games was the icing on the cake. Off the pitch, the tour allowed us to enjoy shared experiences and have a lot of fun together, whether it was bowling, shopping, or screaming our way through the Edinburgh Dungeons! Trips like this are so important in helping our players grow both as individuals and as a team, and this group absolutely rose to the occasion. I’m already looking forward to planning the next one!”

Off the Pitch Activities
While hockey was the central focus of the trip, the pupils also had ample opportunity to unwind and enjoy the social aspect of the tour. The team-bonding activities were a definite highlight for many. A night of bowling sparked plenty of friendly competition, and a shopping trip gave everyone the chance to relax and enjoy some downtime. The visit to the Edinburgh Dungeons provided thrills and laughter, with pupils and staff alike sharing screams and smiles as they explored the spooky attraction.

The glorious weather across the weekend was an unexpected bonus, with bright sunshine and clear skies enhancing the playing conditions and lifting everyone’s mood. Many of the girls commented on how much more enjoyable the matches were under the blue skies, and the sunshine certainly added to the tour’s upbeat atmosphere.

Reflecting on the trip, it’s clear that this was more than just a sporting weekend. The tour offered a valuable opportunity for the girls to develop their confidence, build stronger friendships, and create memories that will last a lifetime. For many, this was their first experience of a school sports tour, and it’s safe to say it won’t be their last.
With their spirits high and their skills sharpened, the U14 teams returned home with smiles on their faces and medals in their bags. Wallace High School looks forward to many more successful tours in the future and celebrates the achievements of these dedicated young athletes.
