Every year our dedicated Modern Languages organise a fun filled cultural trip to either France, Germany or Spain. This year they travelled to France. Please read on to find out more about what they saw and experienced in one of the most iconic cities in Europe.

In late March, 40 well-heeled French students from Years 9-11, accompanied by Mrs. Cherry, Mr. Beaton, Mr. McGeown and Mrs. Allen, set off on an action-packed five day trip to the renowned capital of all things fashion; Paris. Whilst shopping was high on the agenda for both male and female pupils alike, the itinerary ensured that a balance was struck in the history and culture department. Our young people had the opportunity to practise and perfect their French language skills, pushing themselves to ‘have a go’, and learning so much in the process.
Days 1 & 2
Despite a lot of travelling on Day One, the group were in high spirits when we reached the capital city and they got their first glimpse of its most well-known monument, the Eiffel Tower, during a post-dinner walk along the Seine. Then it was back to the hotel for a much-needed nights’ sleep.
Day Two got off to a great start with a coach tour of all of the city’s most popular tourist attractions. An awe-inspiring view of the Eiffel Tower from the esplanade at Trocadéro provided spectacular photo opportunities, before setting sail on a boat cruise along the Seine to admire the beauty of the city at a slower pace.
Day 3
The Stade de France was the first stop of Day Three, allowing the pupils a look inside the dressing room of France’s most formidable football team. A teacher versus pupil penalty shoot-out provided great entertainment value and a superb (and possibly fluke?) shot from Mr McGeown, secured a win for the teachers, leaving everyone with a smile on their face. A visit to the Orsay museum in the afternoon provided a cultural counterbalance and was thoroughly enjoyed by the budding artists amongst us!
Euro Disney
Day Four was the long-awaited date with Euro Disney and despite the incessant rain, the students had a fantastic experience. No queue was too long, no ride too terrifying for our young people; the teachers, however, contented themselves with a relaxing boat ride on ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ – it provided shelter from the elements if nothing else! Exhausted, but happy, we headed back to the hotel for our final night and a fun quiz organised by Mr Beaton and Mr McGeown.
Squeezing as much from Paris as we possibly could, a trip to Montparnasse Tower on the last morning allowed us to say a final ‘au revoir’ to the city from an outstanding vantage point. Ice cream in Montmartre as the sun came out was the cherry on top of a perfect final day.
Making their way back to the airport, Mrs. Allen reflected on the success of the trip:
“Friendships were forged, wonderful memories were made. It was a delight to take the group on a tour of my favourite city – they were excellent ambassadors for our school and a credit to their parents.”
Thank you to the staff who made this trip happen and to our parents who supported us. Keep an ear out for next year’s trip!
