At Wallace, we believe in holistic education. There is a wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities for students to participate in. From our successful sports and music programmes to department-led clubs and societies, there is something for everyone at Wallace. Our extra-curricular programme helps students develop key interpersonal skills and become fully engaged in school life. This year has been exceptionally busy at Wallace, with a range of new clubs and societies being offered. Read on to find out more about life beyond the classroom at Wallace.

Sports Programmes
We are immensely proud of our sporting programmes at Wallace. Each week, our teachers and external coaches ensure that a variety of sports are on offer, and students have the opportunity to represent the school in competitive fixtures. On Saturday mornings, the school is alive with the sound of whistles and shouts of encouragement as members of the wider Wallace community gather to support the school teams.
After-school sports include rugby and hockey for boys and girls. There is also netball after school, and our winter cricket programme is in full swing from 7.45 am on most mornings for boys and girls. Our equestrian and golf teams have already participated in competitions this term. We also have students representing the school in upcoming badminton and cross-country events. You can follow the success of our sports teams at http://www.instragram.com/wallacesport
We have also recently reported on the success of many former Wallace athletes. Please access the link below to find out more:
We have also had a number of sporting tours planned for this year. Our senior rugby teams will be heading to Portugal in December for a training camp in preparation for the Schools’ Cup in 2025, and our senior girls’ hockey teams are travelling to Valencia in the New Year to prepare for their cup run in January 2025.
Our boys’ hockey teams had a wonderful time on their tour to Edinburgh (see link below), and they also reached the final of the Herbie Sharman Shield in the recent Irish Schools competition held in Dublin.
Music
We are delighted to have a thriving extra-curricular music programme at Wallace. The Music Department has been hard at work this term, with lunchtime recitals, a highly entertaining Year 8 Concert, and before- and after-school musical rehearsals. Students have been busy practising in the guitar club, jazz band, and a whole host of choirs.
Upcoming events include a collaborative concert on Monday, 9th December in aid of the NI Hospice, and our very popular annual Nine Lessons and Carols service at St Patrick’s Church on 11th December. As the festive season approaches, our musicians and singers will be entertaining the school at break and lunchtimes. Departmental Clubs and Societies
At a departmental level, our dedicated teachers are committed to developing transversal skills within the classroom as well as through extra-curricular clubs and societies. We offer a wide array of extra-curricular clubs at Wallace High School, as we understand the importance of students engaging in their development outside of the classroom. These opportunities take place before, during, and after school, with many students taking on leadership roles.
Wallace offers over 20 clubs and societies in addition to the sports and music programmes. These range from the Junior Languages Club and Junior Scripture Union to Dance, Film, and Drama. Some clubs put on performances, such as the popular Night at the Musicals, or participate in external competitions. Others support school initiatives, such as the Eco Club, or provide time for pupils to meet and socialise with friends, as seen in the Warhammer and Dungeons and Dragons Club.
