As another school year begins, the sun shone to welcome our new pupils. Coming from over thirty feeder schools 178 pupils joined Year 8. Many are second generation Wallace while others can boast of being third generation Wallace although no staff member ever wants to hear the words “You taught my granny.”
Year 8 enjoyed their traditional start to Wallace life with exclusive attendance for a half day providing an opportunity to get familiar with the building’s layout. As ever the school’s Head of Maintenance spent his summer overseeing various changes to the buildings and grounds so our “newbies” got first sight of our newly-refurbished tennis courts, a grant-aided venture in association with Lisburn tennis club. The new playing surface is a delightful blue echoing both our School Enhancement project hue and our famed “smurf turf.” A35 has also been transformed into a well-equipped multi-purpose space equipped with impressive technology.
We also welcomed a significant number of new members of staff: Ms S Knight-Geddes as Head of Business Studies, Economics and Enterprise Education, Mr J English as Head of Mathematics, Mrs C Harrison and Mr J Carder join the English Department, Messrs E McGeown and P Smyth join the Mathematics Department, Miss C Brown is now a permanent member of staff in History and Politics and Mr T Gibson returns to Wallace to teach Computing and SSD.
Our Prep Department welcomed Ms A Patterson, Ms A Salter, Ms K Gordon and Mr Matthew Gleave. We hope to introduce some of our new staff members more fully via our social media.
As the school year commences fully for all (naturally in glorious sunshine!) it is our sincere hope that “business as usual” can resume! We look forward to a year of achievement, companionship and fun.
